Python Developer
About the job
We're Locus, a small team in Amsterdam building property management software. We know our market, we know what customers need, and we’re ready to build the business. Join us and be part of that journey.
If you enjoy building Python applications, collaborating with colleagues, and taking responsibility for your work, we'd like to meet you. This could be your first developer job, but you've already spent time building things, exploring how they work, and getting them to run. You're ready to bring that curiosity and initiative to a team building a product.
You'll work with a lean, structured codebase using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with event sourcing and CQRS at its core. You can develop familiarity with these tools and concepts on the job.
About the work
You'll own pieces of work that fit your capability, with colleagues available for guidance and review. People with real estate expertise are available to explore requirements and work through questions with you. You'll suggest an approach, carry it through, and keep colleagues informed as you go.
Develop Python features and the business logic behind them.
Write maintainable code and domain-focused tests that validate business flows and document how they should work.
Work with domain experts to validate features and iterate on their feedback.
Explore a tool, technique, or concept and build a small proof of concept to test an idea.
Take initiative when you see an improvement, discuss it with the team, and follow through on what you agree to do.
You'll join a team with different strengths and perspectives, with room to deepen your expertise and develop in new directions. As you learn, the scope of the work you own can grow.
What we'd like you to bring
Hands-on Python experience: you've built working projects, can explain your choices, and can debug and extend your code. This can come from personal projects, study, an internship, or paid work.
An understanding of how web applications fit together, relational databases and SQL, and version control.
Some experience testing your code and an interest in learning how to work on a shared codebase.
Curiosity and initiative: you enjoy learning techniques, tools, and concepts and trying them out to solve a problem.
Responsibility for the work you take on, including communicating progress, asking for help, and following through.
Enjoyment of working with others, sharing ideas, and using feedback to improve your work.
You don't need a long employment history. We'd like to hear about what you've built, what you learned along the way, and what you'd like to tackle next.
Useful extras
Experience integrating cloud AI services, such as Gemini, Claude, or Amazon Bedrock, into application workflows.
Familiarity with FastAPI or experience building a web application with a database.
Interest in event-driven systems or event sourcing.
React experience is a plus, but isn't required. If you're comfortable working on the interface, there's room to contribute there too.

You're eligible to work in the Netherlands without requiring sponsorship.
